This metric does not reflect 100% accuracy for current logged in users on OSgrid. OSgrid has many levels of users, from very basic users who will only visit the grid one time, and there are others who are online all the time and have been with the project for many years. Unfortunately because of the current design of OpenSimulator and the open ended nature of OSgrid, we can not currently get 100% exact user metrics in a real-time nature.
The stats currently shown on the website are just a near approximation of how many users on the grid, it reads our database to see which users are currently flagged as on line in the last 24 hours only but unfortunately users who crash do not get logged out properly and will appear to remain logged in for at least 24 hours, which skews our statistics. However many users do re-log into the grid after crashing and many do actually log out in a proper manner and are then flagged as not logged in any more. That said because of these things our Current Online users metric is therefore not 100% to be relied upon and may not paint a completely accurate picture of the current grid status. We are constantly working to try to have better metrics but for now this is the best we have. On the other hand the Active users (Last 30 days) metric is probably one of the more accurate measurements we have, while this stat doesnt really show how long users are staying on the grid it does show that the grid is being used by a wide variety of people.
